A New Start

I can't wait to see where this new start will take me! I've just joined a new weight loss blog and hope it will help to keep me focused on the results! I know I've been mia this weekend, but it was oh so crazy! I'm going to try and keep this updated daily, but we'll see. I only have online access at work and sometimes at friend's houses, but I will try my best to keep it up! So, I'm not off to a good start this month, but I will try my best for the rest of the month.

Here are my problems:

I can't imagine wasting all the food that I have in my fridge! Plus, it's so expensive to eat healthy. So then I start wondering, am I just making up excuses to postpone my diet? Does anyone else have these issues?

Sure, I have a gym membership, but ask me how many times I actually go? I think I started up in the beginning of the year with so many expectations for myself. Ya right, that didn't happen. I was doing really well in the beginning, but then I stopped going and never went back. Part of the reason is I feel like they're all going to look at me like another one of those people that sign up and never go. Another reason is I don't want to go and see how much I gained since I last went. I keep telling myself that I'm going to lose the weight I gained first and then go back. What should I do?

I love to eat out and I love all kinds of unhealthy food. How do I get past this craving for the worst kinds of foods. I need a magic pill!

So here are a few of my problems. I have a long road ahead of me, but I will make it!

Hmmmm.. I'll start with the gym. I completely hear you! But, if youre not wanting to waste food and claim that its expensive to eat healthily... then just think of the money youre THROWING AWAY on a gym membership. No one knows if youre there everyday or once a month. So just start little. Try to get to the gym just ONCE a week this week. Then when you hit that goal -- try to go TWO times the next week. Until you get into a habit (hmmm I should be taking this advice myself!!)

As for it being expensive -- it is expensive to eat healthy. But its not as bad as you think. I dont know if you eat out all that much -- but if you do cut out one or two meals a week of eating out and buy fresh produce instead. Youll probably end up saving some money.

And yes -- wasting food is the worst. But I find that sometimes I just have to! Every now and then I need to 'cleanse' my kitchen and get rid of the bad, tempting foods.

You're just starting so take it easy and focus on one or two things a week. No need to change everything all at once! You can definitely do this though :) Just be positive!

Start with the gym. If you're shelling out the money, at least use some of it. And most of those people aren't looking at anyone else. They're there to work out too. (I'll admit it IS a little different at my gym, but it's the school gym and most of the people don't pay extra to use it!) Jeannie gave some good points for getting back to that

As for the food, start slowly backing off of certain things. You don't have to give up anything you love, just eat it in moderation. If you want something, you can always scale back the rest of your day to account for it.

If you're really worried about wasting food, see if you have some friends that would be interested in taking it off your hands. Who knows, they might do that for you just to support your decision to be healthier!

Heehee, leave it to me to be the reverse and start with food.

Remember that food isn't evil, as long as it's in MODERATION. Look at what you have and look at a normal portion size. Stil eat that, just add some veggies or fruits or other healthy stuff to it. I'm a big proponent of buying ziploc snack size bags and throwing stuff in there. If it's preportioned, just grab one bag.

I'm also an "out of sight, out of mind" eater, so if I have a bag of Oreos in my pantry, I'll throw the container up there. Since I'm short, I don't see it, I rarely think of it. This also helps in keeping fruit in the eye level part of my fridge. Put it in the crisper and I can guarantee I'll have rotting/wasted fruit in a few weeks.

I actually think it's cheaper to eat healthy, as long as you do a lot of cooking for scratch. Throwing away food is hard, though, isn't it? We do it all the time, but it fills me with guilt.
